The man is battling for life at Mayo Hospital, the girl’s condition is stated to be stable.

The motive for the near-fatal attack is yet to be established. Primary investigation revealed that the victim was close to a don-turned MLA and he had a dispute with one of his business partners over money.

It was around 2.40 pm when the victim Sanjay Singh (37) reached his A-390 residence at Indira Nagar on Scorpio (UP 32 BM-7494). Singh got down and was walking towards his house while his driver was parking the vehicle.

He had opened the small gate outside his house and had just walked a few steps towards the main door when a motorcycle screeched to a halt. Before Singh could gauge the situation, the youth sitting on pillion whipped out a pistol and opened fire on Singh.

Arti and the driver rushed Singh and Khushi to Mayo Hospital. Singh had suffered three bullets in his stomach and one each on his left arm and shoulder. The bullet had hit Khushi’s shoulder. The child is daughter of Arti’s uncle. Dhananjay, Ramu and Lucknow University Students’ Union president Bajrangi Singh reached the hospital.

Primary investigation revealed that Singh had called up don-turned-MLA Dhananjay Singh’s confidante Ramu Dwivedi while he was being taken to the hospital. Singh had reached home from his office of mobile company distributorship located on Gokhle Marg, Hazratganj.

Singh was also in the business of installing hoardings in the city. It was revealed that Singh had started business of distributorship in partnership with a friend.

Recently, the friend had separated himself from the business and was asking for his money. The duo had engaged in a dispute too over the matter and the partner had issued him life threats. The cops were scrutinising the printout of Singh’s cellphone (9839118800) but the exact motive behind the attack was yet to be established.
