A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 jolted southeast Alaska on Tuesday and was widely felt throughout the Panhandle, but no damage was immediately reported.

The 6:49 am earthquake was centered 92 kilometers west of Haines at a depth of 8 kilometers, according to the Alaska Earthquake Information Center in Fairbanks. It was centered 57 miles west of Haines at a depth of five miles.

The shallow earthquake was felt in Haines, Juneau, Sitka and numerous other communities.
There were no immediate reports of damage, according to the earthquake information center.
