An earthquake of moderate intensity struck the Nicobar Islands at 6.05 pm on Wednesday evening.
The earthquake, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, was epicentred at 7.2 degrees north and 92.1 degrees east, the India Meteorological Department said in New Delhi on Thursday.
