An earthquake of moderate intensity shook the Indonesian island of Sumatra early Tuesday morning, the Meteorological Department said.

The earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, occurred at 5:25 IST in the Nias region of Sumatra.

The epicentre was located at 1.9 degree north latitude and 97.4 degree east longitude, the department added.
