Moderate quake jolts Andaman & Nicobar

The quake, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre in the South Andaman Islands, the Met office said.

A moderate intensity earthquake jolted the Andaman and Nicobar islands on Tuesday morning, the Indian Meteorological Department said.

The quake, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 0908 hours IST.

Its epicentre lay in the South Andaman Islands, the Met office said.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, badly hit by the Boxing Day tremblor that gave rise to the tsunami waves, have been experiencing aftershocks since then on a regular basis.
