A moderate intensity earthquake was felt in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Thursday morning although no loss of property or human life was reported.

According to Anand Sharma, director, metrological department, a moderate quake of 5.1 intensity in Chamoli district at 02:53am on Thursday morning, some 300 kms from Dehradun.

The Chamoli district administration official RS Parihar said they have so far received no information about any damage due to the quake. Uttarakhand falls under zone IV category – susceptible for earthquakes.
Nonetheless, the lack of coordination between state agencies was once again felt as the state disaster management department had no information till 9 am about the exact intensity of the quake.
