Modern sports complex at Naini soon

KEEPING THE contribution of local lads in the national and international sports arena in mind, the State Sports Minister RK Chaudhary has announced to set up an international level sports complex in 50 acre area in Naini.

KEEPING THE contribution of local lads in the national and international sports arena in mind, the State Sports Minister RK Chaudhary has announced to set up an international level sports complex in 50 acre area in Naini.

He said this while inaugurating an international standard Glass Squash Court in the Mayo Hall premises here on Monday evening. This court has been constructed with the assistance of District Sports Promotion Committee.

He also said that State Government had also decided to establish a Women's Sports College in Jhusi to promote the local talents in different sports.

Chaudhary lauded the District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat for taking special interest in setting up a multi-gym at the Mayo Hall complex. The minister also announced to release Rs 10 lakh fund for district plan in order to construct a tennis court in the city. Soon the existing court would be converted into synthetic court, he added.

Referring to the innovative experiments being carried out by the State Government in the field of sports, the Sports Minister said that government was contemplating to give pension to the sports persons in the State. A proposal to this affect would be okayed soon, said Chaudhary.

Highlighting the contribution made by the city's sportsmen, the district magistrate said that the city had a unique environment because of its special geographical position that was why Arjun Awardee Abhinna Shyam Gupta and Mohammed Kaif were bringing laurels in badminton and cricket fields respectively at the international level. Besides, 80 per cent sports persons in national and international level athletics teams belonged to National Sports Academy, Khel Gaon, Allahabad.

Sports Minister on this occasion honoured the national and international sports persons with giving awards. As many as 20 girl trainees as part of Central Athletics Camp being held at Mayo Hall were also awarded by Chaudhary. Several sportsmen and officials graced the occasion.
