Power looms, textile, Ganga pollution, jobs – it was the god of development that BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi invoked in Varanasi on Friday.
“The leaders of the UPA often ask what is Modi’s vision?” he told the crowd at the Vijay Sankhnad rally in Khajuri village.
“The powerloom sector in UP is dying due to neglect by the government. On the other hand, the Gujarat government revived the power loom sector, developing it as a modern industrial unit. It has not only checked sound pollution but also producing fine textile.”
Given the state of Ganga that flows through the city, the river too, came for a mention. And so did the Congress party.
“The Congress government has made several plans, released large money for anti-pollution work, formed various committees, but Ganga is still flows polluted. Where has all the money gone?”
Urging them to visit Gujarat and see how his government has cleaned up the Sabarmati river, Modi said, “I am not here just to make promises, I have the capacity to fulfill them too.”

{{/usCountry}}“The government was not paying the proper price for their products, selling rice at 80 paisa per kg to the liquor manufacturers. Wheat and rice are left rotting while the poor go hungry. It clearly indicates that UPA government was anti poor,” he said.
