A day after jailed IPS officer DG Vanzara slammed Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and his chief aide Amit Shah in his 10-page resignation letter, the state government has refused to accept his resignation.
The decision of rejecting the resignation was taken after the weekly cabinet meeting held at the state secretariat on Wednesday.
Vanzara had accused the state government of reaping the political benefits of fake encounter cases, while abandoning police officials in jails. He had also said that his “God” Modi had failed to rise to the occasion due to the “evil influence” of Shah.
Even though the state government has refused to accept the resignation, Vanzara said in his letter dated September 1 that he will consider himself relieved from service irrespective of the government’s decision. “I will consider myself to be relieved from my service with effect from the said date with or without formal order from your side which may kindly be noted,” he said. He also said he is ready to “sacrifice” all “hard-earned post-retirement benefits”.
The letter surfaced on Wednesday. Vanzara has been named in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh, Tulasiram Prajapati, Sadique Jamal and Ishrat Jahan fake encounter cases and has been in jail since 2007.
