Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Planning Commission member Sayeeda Hamid had a tiff over condition of minorities at the plan panel meeting, where the state's annual plan of Rs 38,000 crore was finalized. It is a jump of Rs 8,000 crore from the last financial year.
Hamid raked up the issue of poor spending for the welfare of Muslim minorities which Modi refuted and accused her of raking communal issues. She said the Muslims were worst on social indicators in the state.
After the meeting, Ahluwalia complimented Gujarat for doing well on economic front but wanted the state to focus more on the social sector.
Modi, however, said Gujarat was successfully moving towards balanced economic growth and expected economic growth to be over 12% in the 11th five year plan.
"In the coming days, we will be laying stress on women empowerment, as a part of which we have started a 'Mission Mangalam' scheme," he said.
"We also want to focus on road building and infrastructure development in the tribal dominated districts of Dangs and Dahod," Modi said and added that his government will be focusing on providing health at low cost to urban poor.
Taking a dig at the central government, Modi accused the central government of pursuing anti-farmer and anti-poor policies and said imposition of export duty on cotton and export ban had caused loss of Rs.6,000 crore to cotton producing farmers.
