Making this announcement at the Gujarat state BJP executive meeting here on Friday, party general secretary Anant Kumar said: “Let me tell you honestly that it may be Bangalore, Benaras, Ballia or Bihar. We will invite him to come and campaign during assembly or national polls. He is our leader.”

Then, turning dramatically to the Gujarat chief minister, he added: “Modiji, please come to Bihar. You may campaign and hold the BJP flag high there.”

Ananth Kumar is the general secretary in charge of the party’s affairs in Bihar where its alliance with JD(U) has been on the rocks ever since some advertisements appeared in some Patna dailies last month showing Modi holding hands with his Bihar counterpart and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar.

Reacting sharply to Ananth Kumar’s statement, JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwari asked why the BJP was being “adamant” on calling Modi for the campaign. “Why is the BJP adamant? Why is it creating a scene in Bihar,” he said.

When contacted, party chief Sharad Yadav refused to comment: “I wont speak on anything except the coming Bharat Bandh right now.”

Meanwhile, Kumar demanded the constitution of a joint parliamentary committee to probe the “misuse of CBI by the UPA government”. He alleged that that the CBI was harassing BJP ruled state governments at the instance of the UPA government at the Centre.
