SENIOR CONGRESS leader Mohsina Kidwai criticised all non-Congress governments in the State for having done nothing in the name of development.
She said whatever development was seen today was initiated during the chief ministership of Narain Dutt Tewari.
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, she said no Central Government had ever released so much money for the State Government as the UPA Government had done.
Last year, the Centre gave the State Rs 13,500 crore, while this year it released about Rs 19,000 crore for development, she said.
The State, she said, could not claim to have started generation of even a single megawatt of electricity ever since the Congress rule came to an end over 15 years ago.
Praising the UPA Government for having done much to give a boost to rural electrification and primary education, she slammed the State Government for
making empty promises to the people.
The State Government was giving away Central funds to the people, she said. Money being distributed under the Kanya Vidya Dhan was in fact meant for the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, she claimed.
She said doling out unemployment allowance was no solution to the problem of unemployment in the State.

{{/usCountry}}Accusing Chief Minister Mulayam Singh of concealing the plight of farmers in the State, she said over 100 farmers had already committed suicide in the Bundelkhand region.
Even weavers had started committing suicide now, she added.
Without naming the BJP, the BSP and the Samajwadi Party, she accused them of misusing the official machinery.
A government, she said, should have good intentions and, in this context, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were matchless.
Caste-based politics will have to be shunned in case we want development of the country,” she said,” adding, “the time has come for the electorate to realise the power of its vote.”
