Ahead of an important all-party meeting convened by the Centre in Delhi tomorrow to discuss the situation in Kashmir, Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily today said a solution would "definitely" be found to the issue. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was applying his mind to find a solution and "we will definitely find a solution so that we can resolve the conflict," he added.
When asked about the demand for amending the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) or its partial withdrawal in Jammu and Kashmir, Moily said that as far he knew, no decision had been taken on the issue by the Cabinet Committee on Security.
Describing the act as a "governance in conflict-ridden states", which was now in force in Manipur and J&K, he said the idea behind it was to find a solution "and not run away from the solution".
India, he said, is a country of diversity. "It is a pluralistic country. More than 62 years we have survived as a Republic. And our constitution is a conflict resolution document which is capable of finding solution even in the worst of times and I do not think that this is the worst of times. It is a transitional problem," he said.
The CCS had yesterday deferred a decision on AFPSA, but called an all-party meet and expressed readiness for talks to address "trust-deficit" and "governance-deficit".
