THE STATE is all poised for the arrival of the monsoon and is experiencing typical pre-monsoon conditions in several parts. The Upper Air Circulation system in Northwest Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast has now started taking shape. This system, when it intensifies and moves forward, is expected to bring the monsoon into the State, almost a week in advance.
The system will lead to rains in South Chhattisgarh and isolated rains and thundershowers across Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours. However, the monsoon is expected only after June 6, director of Regional Meteorological Centre Dr D P Dubey said.
During the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Sunday, several parts in State experienced rainfall and other parts experienced clouding. The rainfall figures are as follows: Gwalior – 18.3 mms, Satna – 9.3 mms, Hoshangabad – 6.0 mms, Sagar – 5.8 mms, Bhopal- 0.5 mms, Guna – 0.2 mms and Indore – 0.1 mms. On Sunday, Jabalpur recorded 0.8 mms of rains.
The weather conditions have led to lowering of temperatures across the State giving people respite from the scorching heat that was prevailing for most part of month of May. On Sunday, Bhopal recorded maximum of 34.6 degrees, Indore- 35.0 degrees, Gwalior – 36.4 and Jabalpur – 34.6 degrees.
