"We understand that more arrests are likely to take place in the Ranbir case," a senior police official said in Dehradun on Thursday.

Ravindra Pal Singh, father of 22-year-old MBA student, had lodged an FIR against 14 police personnel in the case, of whom three were arrested on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Inspector Santosh Jaiswal, Sub-Inspector GD Bhatt and police constable Ajit Singh were produced before a CBI court, which sent them to a 14-day judicial custody.

In a related development, eight police personnel have approached CBI saying they should be arrested as they feared action against them.

The CBI had in September arrested Ram Kumar and Ashok Kumar, Singh's friends, who were seen at Dalanwala area on July 3 when the alleged encounter took place.

Singh, hailing from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was shot dead from a close range during the visit of President Pratibha Patil's visit to the city.

But contradicting police claims, the postmortem report revealed Singh was shot dead from a close range and was even tortured before his death. This enraged the parents of Singh, who demanded a CBI probe.

BJP President Rajnath Singh also asked Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank to recommend such a probe.
