Ram Mohan Garg, Garg, who enjoyed the status of a state minister under Mayawati Government while he was the chairman of state Fisheries Devlopment Corporation till last year, was arrested in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow this evening following a complaint that he had criminally assaulted a woman and made an obscene video of her five years ago.

But the BSP, already mired in controversy over killing of PWD engineer MK Gupta on December 24 allegedly by its MLA Shekhar Tiwari, quickly distanced itself from Garg, saying he had resigned from its membership last year.

Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brijlal told reporters here that a rape case was registered against Garg at Khair police station in Aligarh.

The victim had lodged a complaint of rape against the former BSP leader and submitted CDs and phone call records as evidence, the ADG said.

The ruling BSP, however, said in a statement that it had nothing to do with Garg as he had resigned last year and was not even a primary member of the party.

Garg, meanwhile, alleged that he was falsely implicated in the case by the woman due to a "political conspiracy".
