These are some of the messages that people from different walks of life penned down during a signature campaign carried out at Patel Park near the GPO on Saturday. A large number of people, doctors, lawyers, teachers, students and common citizens, converged under a single banner to register their protest against the proposed hike in reservation mooted by Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh.

The protest started with a dharna and then turned into a signature campaign. A meeting also was held in which leaders from each group raised their voice against reservations. The protesters raised anti-Arjun Singh and anti-Union government slogans and formed a long human chain from the busy Hazratganj crossing to the Vidhan Bhawan. Such was the impact that even commuters joined them, further stretching the human chain.

President of Lucknow Bar Council, Saroj Kumar Shukla supported the agitation being carried out by medicos across the country. Students from Saraswati Dental College also registered their protest by sporting black badges. Office-bearers of the PMSA too flayed the attack on the medicos.

Members of the IMA, Lucknow also expressed anger over the manhandling of medicos. IMA doctors all over the state kept away from routine work and only attended emergency cases.

However, the UP Backward Sangh supported the government move for reservation in IITs and IIMs.
