These trains include the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani, Jhelum Express, Kerala Express and Himgiri Express.

The move comes as part of a large-scale revision of the Indian Railways timetable, which is being carried out in the country for the first time after 128 years.

Launching the new timetable, Railway Board Chairman J.P. Batra said the increase in the speed had been made possible because the vacuum brake system had been completely replaced by the air brake system since May.

According to him, the travel time will be reduced by one hour for 85 trains, by one to two hours for 31 trains, by two to three hours for 16 trains and more than five hours for eight trains. The Railways is in the process of putting more trains in the super-fast category, he said.
