IN YET another standoff between the Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal and the State government and chief minister in particular, the prestigious Accelerated Power Development Reform (APDRP) project is once again in the news.

Jaiswal has levelled allegations that the amount sent by the Power ministry under the prestigious APDRP project to the State government was being claimed by the State government as it own money.
Time and again the State government had issued statements that the amount of Rs 43.85 crore sanctioned to KESCo under the APDRP project had been invested by it and not the Union governmment, stated Jaiswal.
“The state government has been misleading people of the city by issuing baseless statements,” stated Jaiswal.
In order to improve power distribution system of the city KESCo had sent a new project of Rs 94 crore to the Power ministry. But the power company failed to submit expenditure details of Rs 43.85 crore which the Power ministry had sent to it under the APDRP project. Incensed over the issue, Jaiswal had already summoned managing director of KESCo Arun and solicited an explanation from him on expenditures made under the ongoing APDRP project.
Even the principal secretary (Power) to the State government AK Khurana on his last visit to the city discussed in detail the project and the work to be executed under it but did not disclose the source of money.

KESCo has informed the Power ministry about the amount sent by it but did not send any detailed information about the various heads under which the money had been spent. To clarify the matter, Jaiswal had already summoned KESCo MD.
Apart from this Jaiswal had also solicited detailed information about the new Rs 94 crore project sent by KESCo to the Power ministry. Jaiswal had also promised all possible assistance in sanction of funds for streamlining the power distribution system of the city.
