According to a complaint lodged by Bhima, a vegetable vendor in Lehal village near Moonak in Sangrur District, his wife Deepo was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with a taxi driver, they said.

Bhima claimed that Deepo, who had gone to visit her mother in a village near Patran in Patiala District, flung their two sons, aged 4 and 7 and an 18-month-old daughter into the Narwana branch of the canal near Moonak on Wednesday.

The police said that a case of murder has been registered against the woman but so far, divers have not been able to find the bodies.

Meanwhile, the taxi driver, identified as Jassa alias Billa of Nanhera village, is absconding.
