Move to check Singhara cultivation

THE BHOPAL Municipal Corporation authorities are all set to check Singhara cultivation in the Upper Lake that is causing the pollution in this water body. Senior officials of the BMC today inspected the areas of the Upper Lake and told the cultivators to stop cultivation.

THE BHOPAL Municipal Corporation authorities are all set to check Singhara cultivation in the Upper Lake that is causing the pollution in this water body. Senior officials of the BMC today inspected the areas of the Upper Lake and told the cultivators to stop cultivation.

A team of officials led by BMC’s additional commissioner Vaid Prakash and Lake Conservation Officer R B Rai inspected the areas around the Upper Lake. The anti-encroachment team was also accompanied the officials to remove structures installed for cultivation.

The people of Bhoi community carry out the Singhara cultivation in some areas including Saeed Nagar, Khanugaon, Halalpura, Behata village and Sehore Naka. About 150 people of this community are in this cultivation at Sehore Naka area. Similar number of people are involved in the Singhara cultivation at Saeed Nagar and Khanugaon. It was alleged that these farmers are using chemicals resulting in pollution at the Upper Lake.

“We have told the Singhara farmers to stop farming in the Upper Lake. We would further talk to the farmers”, said Lake Conservation Officer R B Rai. He also said that BMC is preparing a list of such farmers.
