To commemorate the landing of the first infantry elements of the Indian Army at the Srinagar Airfield in 1947, Infantry Day celebrations commenced on Sunday at the Infantry School, Mhow.
Every year, Infantry School, Mhow, celebrates Infantry Day on October 27. The day is closely interlinked with the territorial integrity of the nation as the Indian Army went on to drive the 'Kabaiyalis' out of Kashmir and inflicted a most humiliating defeat on the Pakistani force.
On Sunday, celebrations started with an Infantry Run which commenced and terminated at the Garrison Ground. The run was flagged-off by Lt Gen Gurdeep Singh, AVSM, Commandant, Infantry School, and a large number of participants from every age group.
Sepoy Gopal Sharma, L Havaldar Pargat Singh, Naib Subedar Amarjeet Singh, Master Sukhraj Singh, Naveen Chauhan, Ragini, Farkhiya, Kirti emerged as winners of the 10 kms and three kms events respectively in various age categories.
Maj DP Singh, a Kargil veteran and the first blade runner of the country, travelled all the way from Delhi to participate in the event. The spirit of Infantry 'The Ultimate' permeated the entire event.

{{/usCountry}}The celebrations continued in the evening with a captivating military band display by the Rajput Regiment Brass Band followed by a scintillating performance by the 'Dare Devils' the Signals Motor Cycle Display Team. The event drew a large crowds from the Mhow town and left everyone spell bound.
The two events showcased very different facets of the Armed Forces — a rich legacy of music and a spirit of adventure. The celebrations will continue on Monday with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Infantry Memorial and a Sainik Sammelan to be addressed by Lt. Gen. Gurdeep Singh, AVSM, Commandant, Infantry School.
