Cricketers and experts from the state were taken by surprise with the abrupt decision of MS Dhoni to give up test cricket.

However, many of them were also of the view that Dhoni had already lived the best years of his cricketing life and had started to look exhausted.

But one point on which everyone unanimously agreed was that the 33-year-old should have waited for the Australia tour to end before making the jolty announcement.

Former selector and former BCCI secretary, Sanjay Jagdale said Dhoni must have taken the decision after understanding the pros and cons but he should have avoided announcing it in between the ongoing test series.

“Dhoni is at stage of his career where self-assessment is really important. Maybe he was unable to bear the stress. The team was not performing well under his captaincy in various overseas test series but it would be wrong to blame him completely,” said Jagdale.

He added that Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the most successful captains of the Indian cricket team.

On the other hand, international cricketer from MP Naman Ojha congratulated Dhoni for his test career and wished him luck for his future.
