MADHYA PRADESH bagged first position in the country in soyabean in 2005 by producing 60 per cent of the total soyabean production. The State has also topped by having maximum share in the production of gram, maize and total pulses and oilseeds production.

According to an official release, against the national average production of 1,208 hg per hectare, MP has registered soyabean production of 1,130 Kg per hectare. Similarly, against national average of gram production of 792 kg per hectare, the state has recorded 931 kg per hectare, registering 46.2 per cent share.
MP has registered 775 kg per hectare production of pulses against all-India figure of 623 kg per hectare with 23.5% share. In oilseed production, the State’s share against national production average of 1072 kg per hectare is 22.2 per cent. In maize production, MP has registered a share of 12.6 per cent, with 2,072 kg per hectare of production.
The release added that there has been a growth in production in other crops as well. The average production of paddy in Madhya Pradesh is 1058 kg per hectare against national figure of 1990 kg per hectare and wheat production is 1,867 kg per hectare in MP against country’s average of 2707 kg per hectare.
