Agrawal, who had gone to the site with his supporters to stop the illegal miners, said that more than 30 vehicles and machines used for mining left the place at sighting them, leaving behind tonnes of illegally mined sand.

Agrawal further said that when he sat on a dharna at the spot to protest against unchecked illegal mining of sand despite a High Court stay, a crowd of persons armed with lethal weapons advanced towards them menacingly and sensing trouble, they withdrew.

Administrative and police officials reached the site of the incident quite late and by that time, the crowd of illegal miners had disbursed.

Agrawal further alleged that the vehicles being used for transportation and mining of sand had BJP flags on them and persons involved in illegal mining were apparently associated with the ruling party and the chief minister.

Agrawal further alleged that at least 1,000 truckload of sand was being transported from the site in question and said it was not possible in chief minister’s constituency without his ‘blessings’.
