MP shines in National Games, reward doubled

DELIGHTED OVER the unprecedented success of the State?s sportspersons in the National Games in Guwahati, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday announced to double the amount of reward for their sterling performance. The State won 63 medals in the games.

DELIGHTED OVER the unprecedented success of the State’s sportspersons in the National Games in Guwahati, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday announced to double the amount of reward for their sterling performance. The State won 63 medals in the games.

Earlier, the reward for gold medallist was Rs one lakh, for silver medallist Rs 80,000 and bronze medallist Rs 60,000 in individual games. In the team games, the prize money for gold medallist was Rs 50,000, for silver medallist Rs 40,000 and for bronze medallist Rs 30,000.

According to Sports Department sources here, around Rs one crore will be distributed to the medal winners of the National Games.

MP won eight gold medals in Karate, two gold medals in wrestling and one gold medal each in wushu and athletics, besides 19 silver and 32 bronze medals.

Interestingly, Madhya Pradesh participated in 12 different categories of karate and won medals in every section adding eight gold to its kitty. The CM’s announcement to double the prize money will make karateka Vikas Sharma richer by Rs 4 lakh. He won two gold medals.
