MP THROWBALL teams won their inaugural matches played in the 51st School National Sports Meet that began today at Tatya Tope Stadium after a colourful opening ceremony.

More than 2500 school sportspersons from 25 states will contest in throwball, kho-kho and girls’ cricket for the next five days.

In the boys’ category, the State team defeated Orissa in straight sets 15-0 and 15-1. However, the girls’ team faced some tough fight against Bihar in the first set. After winning the first set 15-10, the State girls demonstrated their excellent game and won the second set 15-3.

In the other boys’ matches, Andhra Pradesh defeated UP 15-3 and 15-0, and Punjab defeated Chandigarh 15-3 and 16-14. In the girls’ matches, Punjab defeated Maharashtra 15-3 and 15-6, J&K lost to Karnataka 15-1 and 15-0.

Earlier, inaugurating the meet, chief guest of the opening ceremony, School Education Minister Narottam Mishra said that a healthy mind lives in a healthy body.

Sports have an important role in the society and development of the nation. Sports enhance the concentration and develop the capability of taking quick and right decisions, he added.
