In another incident of love taking a wrong turn, a 23-year-old pharmacy student was set ablaze by her three classmates, including one who allegedly had an affair with her, after she resisted a rape attempt at her home.

She succumbed to her burns on Sunday.

The post-mortem report suggested she was sexually abused as there were injuries on her body and private parts. Ankit Rathore of Indore, Vishal Choudhary of Khandwa and Akshay Joshi of Dhar — all students of pharmacy in Borawa Engineering College, Kasrawad — have been arrested and sent to judicial custody till May 23.

Tehsildar Pardeep Kaurav had recorded the dying declaration of the girl in presence of the police.

According to sources, she sustained 95% burns and therefore was unable to speak properly but she told the officers about the wrong intentions of the accused and how she was set on fire when she opposed them.

“We are investigating the case from all possible angles and the accused have been booked under Sections 302 and 376 of IPC,” said SDOP Kasrawad Sunil Jolly.
