THE ALL India Muslim Personal Board (AIMPLB) today assailed the Mulayam Singh Yadav government for not issuing a fresh notification in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition case and said the state government seemed to be in league with the BJP leaders and was out to scuttle their trial.
Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, board’s executive committee members Qasim Rasool Ilyas and Zafaryab Jilani said, Yadav had promised to issue a notification clubbing two criminal cases (197,198), but even after the lapse of more than three years the state government had not taken any action to fulfill the promise.
Ilyas said case number 198 involving senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Dr MM Joshi, Ashok Singhal and others was pending in a Rai Bareli court. He said a government notification was required to club it with case number 197 pending in a Lucknow court. Ilyas said the clubbing of the two cases was urgently required to speed up trial of the conspirators.
Ilyas said during the last three years, the board had written nearly half a dozen letters to the chief minister but there was so far no response. “Now the Yadav government was on its way out, we want that notification should be issued immediately,” Ilyas said. Pointing out that resentment was brewing in the Muslim community over the issue, he said the government’s a ‘tacit understanding’ with the BJP on the issue was strange.
The board has also asked the state government to clarify its stand on “bullet-proofing” of the sanctum sanctorum at the disputed site in Ayodhya. Demanding withdrawal of the application, which the Central government had moved in the Supreme Court in consultation with the UP government, Ilyas said enough security arrangements had been made at the disputed site and there was no need to further fortify the makeshift temple.

Ilyas said the AIMPLB had been demanding amendment in the UP Zamindari Abolition Act to provide right to inheritance to wife and daughter in landed property but the Yadav government was sitting tight on the demand.
