MPs call for Govt, civil societies cooperation

An alliance of politicians and civil societies will oversee the implementation of the CMP, thereby ensuring inclusive democracy.

Union Minister of Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Aiyar, Member of Parliament Sandeep Dikshit and Congress party leader Salman Khurshid have asked social activists and academics to educate, criticise and support the Government.

Speaking at a consultation "Towards Inclusive Democracy: Civil Society's Response to Common Minimum Programme" in the capital, Mani Shankar Aiyar said, "The newly formed Panchayati Raj ministry needs activists, campaigners, academicians to analyse and collaborate to strengthen participatory governance. A strong system of local governance can be the answer to many ills ailing our nation."

The meet brought together and initiated a process of interaction between representatives of the state and civil society and articulated development sector's response to the Common Minimum Programme (CMP).

To make the consultation process as broad based as possible and to ensure that there is a civil society alliance in place to oversee the implementation of the CMP, the participants called for all voluntary organisations to come together and collectively ensure inclusive and responsive democracy.
