Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has asked MPs facing inquiry for their alleged "improper" conduct in the implementation of the MPLAD scheme not to attend the House or any committee meeting.
"Until a further decision is taken, I request the concerned members not to attend the session of the House or the meeting of any committee," he said in the Lok Sabha in a statement.
The Speaker, after consulting party leaders, had constituted a seven-member inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Pawan Kumar Bansal and given it time till January 31 to submit its report.
After Bansal's resignation, Chatterjee appointed V Kishore Chandra as the new chairman and extended till March 17 the time for presenting the report.
The committee was set up on December 20, 2006 in wake of a report by a news channel alleging misuse of MPLAD scheme by some MPs.
