THE URBAN Development Ministry has issued notices to 70 ministers and politicians, asking them to remove unauthorised constructions in the official bungalows they occupy.
The occupants have been asked to remove the unauthorised constructions within 90 days. A ministry official said all the violations were not necessarily carried out by the current occupants as the bungalows keep changing hands.
The notices, issued by Additional Secretary S.M. Acharya, asks the VIPs to take the help of the public works department if necessary to remove the unauthorised portions. The VIPs who received the notice include six cabinet ministers, two junior ministers and senior politicians.
Ministry officials said the drawings of the buildings, indicating the unauthorised constructions, had been sent to the occupants along with the notices.
A ministry senior official said the notices were issued after the Delhi High Court sought information regarding action taken against unauthorised constructions in the Lutyens Bungalow Zone. Some of the bungalows have been completelyredesigned without sanction and in some, additional floor space has been added for reception rooms and visitors area.
