With the city-based multi-speciality K G Hospital and Post Graduate Medical Institute chosen as an examination centre for South India by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), fifteen doctors are attending the MRCS examination on Monday, according to Dr James A Miller, Chief Executive of RCPSG.
Miller, in Coimbatore to supervise the procedure at the Hospital, told mediapersons that besides Coimbatore, 100 candidates were appearing for the examination at Delhi. The exams are being held simultaneously at all centres in different parts of the world.
However, Miller said that due to lack of awareness, the candidates were lesser in number in Coimbatore and expressed hope that with proper advertisement and campaign, the number would raise to 50 to 60 for future examinations by the College. Stating that the examination papers of the part one and two of MRCS would be sent to Glasgow for evaluation, he said that the result would be announced after one month.
The oral and clinical section of the examination, named part three, would be held in September at all centres, he informed. With the centres functioning in India, the doctors could save nearly rupees one lakh, since they need not travel to the United Kingdom any more, to attend the examinations held every year by the Royal College now, Miller added.
RCPSG examined over 5,000 candidates annually and the Membership and Fellowship of College were much sought after Worldwide, Valerie Hogg, Head of Examiantions, Assessment and Training Standards, claimed.
