"That's not true," said MTN spokeswoman Nozipho January-Bardill, when asked if the company was in talks with Reliance.

"If we were talking to Reliance we would have told the market," she said.

Reliance said on Wednesday it had received proposals from international telecom firms to buy a strategic equity stake.
