3G services enables high-speed internet, videos and many other value-added services on mobile phone.

An MTNL official said the PSU has floated an expression of interest seeking offers from the handset makers who are willing to bundle their 3G handset with MTNL’s 3G mobile services on non-exclusive basis for the convenience of customers on a single window.

Operators feels the real explosion will happen when 3G handsets are available at below $50 or about Rs 2,500 but with some basic features. At present low-cost 3G handsets are available from leading vendors at Rs 3,000-6,000.

The PSU has also decided to take the franchise route to sell 3G services in Delhi and Mumbai.

This EoI seeks proposals from prospective participants who have resources and infrastructure to acquire, serve and retain customers and provide customer care.
