However, former premier Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League was conspicuous by its absence at the breakfast meeting.

Among those who attended the meeting were former prime minister and PML- (Q) chief Shujat Hussain, Opposition MMA leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali Khan.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim, parliamentary party leader of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party and MQM leader Mohammed Farooq Sattar also attended the meeting.

PML- (N) was also invited for the meeting but nobody from the party turned up. The party had reportedly cited pre-occupation for its non-attendance.

However, the party is understood to have sought a separate meeting with Mukherjee.

During the interaction between Mukherjee and political leaders, the ongoing peace process is believed to have figured prominently. The two sides are understood to have discussed how the process can be taken forward.
