"The law and order situation in the state has deteriorated beyond repair with the killing of innocent children in Nithari village in Noida, which illustrates the failure of the state machinery," party president Rajnath Singh said.

He described the killings as "gruesome" and said Yadav should quit office "owning moral responsibility" for the episode.

Singh said his party was of the view that free and fair elections were not possible under the Samajwadi Party-led dispensation and demanded imposition of Central rule in the state.

He attacked the Tarun Gogoi government in Assam, saying it had not taken adequate steps to prevent the gunning down of over 70 people by the insurgent group.

"As the Congress government has failed to prevent the killings of migrant people and labourers, the Centre should empower the military to flush out the separatists to contain violence against Hindi-speaking people of the state," he said.
