IN AN attempt to counter Muslim Fronts, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the community. Claiming that the State Government had taken several welfare measures, Yadav said he would not allow any harm to the community.
He said Muslims should not be misled by propaganda. Addressing a public meeting in Auraiyya on Thursday, the chief minister said the process for the appointment of 5,000 Urdu teachers would commence soon.
Pointing out that madarsas would get all the facilities available to government schools, he said girl students passing an Intermediate-equivalent examination from these institutions would be provided with Rs 20,000.
Expressing unhappiness over the fact that Auraiyya district was carved out of his hometown Etawah, the chief minister said the district had already suffered because of politicking. He said injustice had again been done with the district by declaring it a reserved parliamentary seat for Scheduled Castes. Yadav said despite hurdles, efforts were being made for the all-round development of the State.
He said the Congress-led UPA Government had been discriminating against the State. He also said the Centre had given a special package to Uttaranchal for industrial development, but a similar proposal of UP had been rejected.

{{/usCountry}}Enumerating the achievements of the government, the chief minister said the party workers should apprise the people of them. Yadav also laid the foundation stone of a bridge over the Sengar river and announced other projects for the district.
Later, at a foundation laying ceremony of a Rs 150-crore paramedical college in Safai, Yadav said it would generate employment opportunities in the region.
