The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday deferred its plan to withdraw support to Congress-led UPA government for six months. SP National President Mulayam Singh Yadav said the party would review its support to the UPA next year.
Yadav also said SP would hold its Jail Bharo agitation against the BSP and Union governments from January 19 to January 23.
“The government must pay for its autocracy, atrocities, land grabbing and loot of the exchequer. So be prepared to face lathis and jail terms,” he told SP workers and leaders on the last of the party’s Special National Convention here.
He said the agitation was scheduled for January because of approaching month of Ramzan, the farming season and legislative council elections.
He called upon the leaders to galvanise farmers, students, youths and advocates for the stir. He said preparations for the agitation should begin soon and entrusted his son and state party president Akhilesh Yadav to ensure its success.“The agitation should be historical, peaceful and should have public support.”
He said the SP would draw up a list of officers “working as agents of the BSP” before the agitation.
