Under fire from various quarters over his new-found bonhomie with once Hindutva icon Kalyan Singh, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday vowed he would never act against the interest of minorities.
He also said communalism was a big hurdle in development of the country and in establishing social harmony and promised to wage a war against it.
“I will never act against the interest of minorities,” the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister affirmed at a meeting of party leaders in Lucknow.
Yadav said he had always favoured more opportunities for minorities, backwards, dalits and the poor in the interest of social justice.
He said his party wold forcefully fight communalism and casteism which were big roadblocks in country’s development and in establishing social harmony.
Lashing out at the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh, the SP chief said it had brought the state on the verge of destruction.
“The state is facing an acute power crisis. Development has come to a standstill and agriculture has been completely neglected under the BSP rule,” he said.
Exhorting party leaders and workers to gear themselves up for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the SP supremo said they should ensure party’s victory in at least 60 seats.
