Kamte's body, brought to his residence in Pune from Mumbai, was taken in a procession to Vaikunth crematorium as activists of various social and political organizations raised slogans hailing the officer's supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Pune Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale and University Vice- Chancellor Narendra Jadhav joined a large number of top police officials who were present to pay their last respects to Kamte who fell to terrorists' bullets.
