The Met department said it had recorded 200mm of rainfall at Colaba station and 142.9mm of rainfall at Santacruz station in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am. The rain, however, abated by afternoon, with Colaba station recording only 14mm and Santacruz 60.8 mm till 2.30 pm., met officials said.

As a result, despite high tide till the evening, there was no major water-logging in the city as road and rail services limped back to mormal. However, most office-goers chose to take the day off, resulting in many government and private offices wearing a deserted look.

Earlier, Central Railway services were suspended due to water-logging between Kurla and Vidyavihar suburbs while trains on the Western and Harbour lines were running late. Flights from the international airports were delayed by 90 minutes, according to the Mumbai International Airport authorities.

The rains, however, brought cheer to farmers in western Maharashtra where the revival of monsoons helped in completing sowing operations.
