Also back in the team was Yuvraj Singh, who had to sit out of the Nagpur match after suffering a hamstring injury during the last phase of the Pakistan tour earlier this year.

The announcement was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah along with National Selection Committee chairman Kiran More at a press conference here on the final day of the first Test that ended in a draw.

Yuvraj was declared fit by the team management on Saturday. While he replaces Suresh Raina, Patel comes in for VRV Singh.

Talking about the dropping of the two young players, More said: "Suresh is an outstanding cricketer and he will surely be given more opportunities in future. This is a grooming process and we are looking to build a forward-looking team.

The team:

Rahul Dravid (captain), Virendra Sehwag (vice-captain), Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Wasim Jaffer, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Kaif, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Anil Kumble, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh, S Sreesanth, Piyush Chawla and Munaf Patel.
