Music lovers were treated to a dazzling performance by local boy Kailash Kher of Allah key Bandey fame as the three-day long 13th Qutub festival got underway.

The evening began with Kher singing from his latest track from his periodic film Mangal Pandey.

Youngsters hummed along with Kher as he churned out one hit song of his after another along with songs of late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, known for reviving Sufi music in Hindi films.

"I really enjoyed the show. The energy on the stage was great. I loved the way Kailsh sang it was fun," said Mohini Narain, a listener.

Shiela Dikshit, who was the chief guest for the festival aptly christened it as a Musical Bonanza for Youth, said such events provide a platform to the upcoming classical singers who want to experiment with the old form.

Later in the evening the second performance was by Orange Street, a loud band that combines electronica, rock and Indian classical music.

Orange Street had won the great Indian Rock competition in 2002.

Sufi singers Rabbi Shergill, Chand Afzal, Shafqat Ali Khan and Aslam Sabri are also scheduled to give their performances.
