My remixes are a hit but I hate the tag

“The remix-singer tag limits the performer’s creativity. And getting rid of that becomes very tough. My song Aika Dajiba is an original number. But many think it’s a remix. That’s how the tag hampers your creativity,” she says with a dose of realism.

Tu tu hai wahi and Sajna hai mujhe fetched Vaishali popularity with DJ Aqeel, the remix musician. “Prior to this I was singing for most of the prominent companies but I got my first recognition when participated in a musical show Meri Awaz Suno in 1996,” she says.

Singing twice for AR Rahman Radha kaise na jale (with Asha Bhonsle) in Lagaan and Chalka Re in Saathiya gave her most popularity. “Rahman made me record for Shaad Ali’s hit in Tamil and Telugu too,” she quips. Her songs Suno to jana jana in Girlfriend and funny song Son chidiya in Padamshree Lalu Prasad Yadav were also chartbuster.

She is working on the next album. She is in the city to experiment the song at Sahara Ganj on Sunday evening. “This is how singers abroad plan their album. They keep people’s feedback in mind. I am singing the Mera India — a patriotic song — for the first time here. And, this is again an original song not a remix,” she says.

Vaishali is against cheap videos. She dubs it a dangerous sign. “Now I have decided to create my own work and with good singing work will come my way,” she says.
