Military-run Myanmar, the world's second-largest producer of opium after Afghanistan, arrested 328 suspected drug dealers in November, state media said on Friday.

Women accounted for 17 per cent of the total arrests, the state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper said, citing police figures. The government also seized 35 kilograms of heroin last month.

Myanmar regularly burns narcotics hauls in an effort to convince the world that it is cracking down on rampant drug production, but the country remains a major producer of amphetamines.
The United States, a vocal critic of the military regime, has said amphetamine production in Myanmar is one of the most serious problems facing Southeast Asia.
