A day after he advocated hot pursuit against terrorists across the border, senior Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said as long as there is an absence of a proper deterrent against the Pakistani Army, it will continue to sabotage peace in India.
“Retaliation and retribution must be an option with our Army,” he said.
Stepping up the attack, Amarinder suggested Myanmar-like operations against terrorists along the Pakistan border also.
On Tuesday in Gurdaspur, Amarinder had urged PM Narendra Modi to seriously consider the option of hot pursuit against terrorists across the border even if it meant escalation of hostilities between the neighbours.
“They are sending ‘fidayeen’ and killing our innocent people at regular intervals. After Mumbai, it was Kathua and Samba in Jammu and Kashmir and today it is Dinanagar in Punjab and tomorrow it may be some other place. How long shall we allow this to go on?” he asked.
“As long as there is no proper deterrent against the Pakistani Army, it will continue to sabotage peace in this country, which it has been doing for a long time now.”
The former Punjab chief minister strongly disagreed with the perception that the Congress has been “soft on terror”. He also cautioned Modi that while dealing with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, he must keep in mind the “machinations” of that country’s army.
