The patients, 35 in number, participated in an arts competition organised by Eshwar Child Welfare Foundation and Kores India. Vishal (Gorakhpur), Puneeta (Siddharthnagar), Uma Patel (Ambedkarnagar) Avnish (Bihar), Abhay (Kushinagar) and many others could be seen busily sketching on paper and filling in colours of their choice.

Some drew their homes, others depicted nature while some also sketched their presence in the hospital. The agony of patients of dreaded diseases like cancer and dengue was evident in their drawings.

“We have decided to distribute awards on Children’s Day on Tuesday and prizes will be for all, without any discrimination,” said Sapna Upadhyay, coordinator of the programme.

The idea, she said, was to provide a different environment inside the ward to the children who had been admitted for a long time so that they might forget their pain for some time.
