The 71-year old missionary of a Nadia convent, who was raped last Saturday, left West Bengal by an early morning flight on Friday.
"She took an Indigo flight for Delhi," said a security official at the airport.
The nun was discharged early Friday morning from the Ranaghat sub-divisional hospital, where she was admitted on last Saturday. She was escorted to Dumdum airport straight from the hospital.
"She was discharged at 2:20 am on Friday, and a gynaecologist escorted her to the airport," said Dr Atindranath Mondal, the super of the hospital. The timing was intended to hoodwink the media.
Ranaghat sub divisional officer Rajarshi Mitra and the subdivisional police officer were present at the time of discharge.
The convent authorities submitted a written application to the hospital stating they want to take her away. According to airport sources, the flight left around 6 am.
Hospital sources told HT that during the course of her treatment, the mother superior of Convent of Jesus and Mary told the superintendent of the hospital that she will not stay in the state any longer.
