LAKHS OF devotees gathered on the bank of the Ganga at Tulsi Ghat to witness the famous Nag-Nathaiya on Thursday evening.
They saw the ‘Leela’ scene where Lord Krishna was playing with his friends on the bank of the river. While playing, the ball fell into the river where dreaded Kalia snake resided. Lord Krishna’s friends urged him to bring out the ball from the river.
Lord Krishna stood atop a Kadamb tree and played his flute. After some time, he jumped into the river. A sense of fear prevailed among the friends of Lord Krishna. Meanwhile, Lord Krishna tamed the dreaded snake Kalia and emerged unscathed on its back.
The venue was overcrowded with the devotees. Roof tops of houses, situated on the bank of the river at Assi Ghat, were overcrowded with the devotees. The Nag Nathaiya started at 3 pm.
Among prominent dignitaries who were present on the occasion, included, Kunwar Ananat Narayan Singh, son of erstwhile King of Kashi late Vibhuti Narayan Singh, State Minister Durga Prasad Mishra, chief priest of Sankat Mochan temple, Prof Veer Bhadra Mishra, district magistrate Rajiv Agrawal and senior superintendent of police Ashutosh Pandey.
The police administration had ensured tight security arrangement at the venue to avert any untoward incident. The venue was divided into two sectors. Around 7 station officers, 15 sub inspectors, 150 constables, 10 female constables, three companies of PAC and one company of RAF had been deployed at the venue and its adjoining areas to ensure smooth passage for devotees and to avert any eventuality.
